What We Do
The Innovation Fund

The Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation (Foundation) is a 501(c)(3) public charity founded in 2018 to address a fundamental absurdity in our food system: 40% of the food produced is thrown away while 1 in 8 Americans struggle with hunger.

The Foundation supports initiatives that create communities free of hunger and waste. The Foundation is the philanthropic partner of The Kroger Co. and its Family of Stores.

There is an absurdity in the U.S. food system: we throw away 40% of the food produced, yet 1 in 8 Americans struggle with hunger. The Zero Hunger | Zero Waste social impact plan is Kroger’s commitment to end hunger and eliminate waste across the company by 2025.

U.S. businesses, farms and consumers spend an estimated $218 billion a year growing, processing, transporting and disposing food that is never eaten. The Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation directs philanthropic investments to entrepreneurs who are helping tackle our nation’s food waste problem.
